Route

The route commences at the world famous Bulman pub and leads past Charles Fort with stunning views of this star shaped fortress completed in 1680. On the far side of the harbour, you can see the ruins of James Fort which was built in 1607 to deter any further incursions by the Spaniards into Kinsale. A well made path leads one through quaint little coves eventually leading on to a narrow muddy path through brambles to the mouth of the harbour.

At the end of the path there is a stretch of furze to be negotiated leading to a large open field with stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean. On a clear day you can see forever!!!!! If we are lucky, schools of Dolphins, Whales and the occasional lonely seal can be seen. Gannets are constantly diving for fish. Pheasants frequently leap from their hiding places in frenzied flight. We follow the field where we eventually spy the majestic Sovereign Islands in the distance. The walk then leads back to lower cove and possible refreshments in
Bulman Pub.
